On Wednesday, March 20, World Culture Club sponsored a “Dance Party” intended to demonstrate formal dance moves. Erna Vanhelfteren, a former teacher from Canterbury and South Side High Schools, showed the attendees the quickstep, chacha, rumba, foxtrot and waltz. Her goal is for the students to be able to listen to today’s music and realize they can do these cool ballroom moves at semiformal and prom. Everyone had a great time!

Tammy and Rhonda from Indiana Donor Network visited Mrs. Arford's science class yesterday to talk about the importance of organ donation. Rhonda shared her story as a donor mom and Tammy taught the class how to make an informed decision about signing up to be a donor. This is a subject close to Mrs. Arford's heart, as she is a donor mom. Madelyn (her newborn daughter) was a heart donor in 2000 and a donor Aunt, and Mrs. Arford's niece Angela and nephew Jonathan were donors in 2002.

Over the weekend, 26 BLHS students competed at the Spring Leadership Conference for Future Business Leaders of America. They won 14 first place, 9 second place, and 8 third place ribbons. The highlight of the weekend, though, was winning the Battle of the Chapters competition against a strong team from South Bend's St. Joseph High School. The winning team consisted of Lily Dippold, Max Kinder and Alex Schenkel. BLHS also took home the Chapter Spirit Award as well as the Community Service Award for raising the most money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Congratulations to all those who participated!

Suzanne Walker from the Indiana State Library introduced the Benjamin Harrison Experience to school librarians on the Fort Wayne side of the diocese at Bishop Luers High School today. Suzanne also showcased a variety of resources available through the Indiana State Library that can benefit both libraries and schools. The Benjamin Harrison Experience offers a unique and enjoyable learning opportunity for students, encouraging them to interact with each other, acquire new knowledge, and have fun in the process. This initiative highlights the use of primary sources something Suzanne is passionate about.
